What Causes Conflict? WEEK 4 - PART 1
Welcome to this week's lesson. Let's pray:
Dear Lord, guide my learning this week. Help me to have an open heart and mind as I work through the lessons. I desire to get to the root of my conflicts with others and to please You in the way I speak, act, and feel. In Jesus' name, Amen.
This week we will start to dig out the ROOT
of our conflicts with others.
James 4:1-2 is our Bible memory verse for this week:
What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but don't get it.
Listen to this story about Tony and his mom. Choose the LISTEN IN BROWSER option.
Look on page 2-2 of your booklet to see a cartoon rendition of this story. (Later, you may color it if you have extra time.)
Cover the green words below and answer this question:
Where does Tony's response fit on the slippery slope?
If you said "attack and escape response" you are correct. Tony yelled at his mother and then ran from the conflict by storming to his room and slamming the door. Tony's mother went on the attack also when she yelled at her son.
This week we will learn that conflict starts in our heart where all our desires, wishes, hopes, and dreams live. First, let's review last week's learning. Jot your answers down in your spiral. Be sure to put your NAME and DATE on the page.
1. What are the three types of responses to conflict on the slippery slope?
2. What are the escape responses?
3. What are the work-it-out responses?
4. According to the slippery slope, how have you responded to conflict this week?
5. Now, look in your booklet on page 2-3 and copy down your new Bible verses, James 4:1-2. Our goal is to memorize these verses this week.
