Seeking Advice WEEK 6 - PART 3
Cover the orange words below and practice saying your Bible verse.
The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways. Proverbs 14:8
What does God's Word say about listening to bad advice?
Olivia, read this out loud:
Proverbs 13:20 promises,
“He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.”
Joshua, read Proverbs 1:8-19 out loud:
8 Listen, my
son, to your father’s instruction
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
9 They are a garland to grace your head
and a chain to adorn your neck.
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
9 They are a garland to grace your head
and a chain to adorn your neck.
10 My
son, if sinful men entice you,
do not give in to them.
11 If they say, “Come along with us;
let’s lie in wait for innocent blood,
let’s ambush some harmless soul;
12 let’s swallow them alive, like the grave,
and whole, like those who go down to the pit;
13 we will get all sorts of valuable things
and fill our houses with plunder;
14 cast lots with us;
we will all share the loot”—
15 my son, do not go along with them,
do not set foot on their paths;
16 for their feet rush into evil,
they are swift to shed blood.
17 How useless to spread a net
where every bird can see it!
18 These men lie in wait for their own blood;
they ambush only themselves!
19 Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain;
it takes away the life of those who get it.
do not give in to them.

Caleb, read Matthew 7:15-23 out loud.
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in
sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit
you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs
from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree
bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree
cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut
down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize
them.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter
the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who
is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we
not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name
perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew
you. Away from me, you evildoers!’”
Here is a short video of 1 Kings 12:1-17. It involves two kings with similar names: Rehoboam, who was the son of King Solomon, and Jeroboam who was not. Rehoboam takes some bad advice and splits the kingdom of Israel into two parts.
Now read
what happens when we listen to good advice.
Olivia, read
Ephesians 6:1-3:
"Children,
obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 'Honor your
father and mother'—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 'so
that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.'"
Caleb, read
Hebrews 13:17:
Have confidence
in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch
over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work
will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.
Joshua, read
2 Samuel 12:1-17:
The Lord sent
Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, “There were two
men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. 2 The rich man
had a very large number of sheep and cattle, 3 but the poor man had
nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up
with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even
slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him.
4 “Now
a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of
his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him.
Instead, he took the ewe lamb that belonged to the poor man and prepared it for
the one who had come to him.”
5 David burned
with anger against the man and said to Nathan, “As surely as
the Lord lives, the man who did this must die! 6 He
must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and
had no pity.”
7 Then
Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what the Lord, the
God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I
delivered you from the hand of Saul. 8 I gave your master’s house to
you, and your master’s wives into your arms. I gave you all Israel and
Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. 9 Why
did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in
his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took
his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. 10 Now,
therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you
despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.’
1. Look in your workbook on pages 4-5. These six cartoons tell the stories we just covered above. Color each cartoon and be sure to fill in the blanks at the bottom of the page.
2. Next, color page 4-6 and post this somewhere you will see it everyday. Maybe by your bed, or on the bathroom mirror. Read a verse a day to help you remember to listen to good advice and make wise-way choices.
3. Pray the prayer on page 4-7 out loud.
