Altering Choices WEEK 11 - PART 2
Those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness.
Proverbs 14:22
Stop and think about that Bible verse for just a second. Did you see it? Did you see the promise that is given in the verse? The Bible is full of promises that we often overlook. In case you missed it, here is the promise:
The Word of God says that you will find the good qualities of love and faithfulness in your life if you plan what is good!
Wow. That's pretty amazing as well as simple. If we plan something good we will find love and faithfulness. And who doesn't need love and faithfulness?
Let's get to planning something good!
In our last lesson, Tony was faced with some tough choices following his cheating blunder.
Isn't it strange that BECAUSE of his poor choice to try to cheat, Tony now has MORE CHOICES to make which could either help him or make his situation worse.
Roll Play Activity: Let's work this out by using the 5As and not the Blame Game. Act out how Tony could take responsibility for his choice to cheat. Take turns playing the part of Tony and also the part of Mr. Chung. Your Workbook page 9-3 will help you remember the 5As.
It's great that Tony remembered to use the 5As to take responsibility and ask forgiveness for his actions. But he also needs a way to keep from making the same mistake again.
Introducing . . . (drum roll please) . . . the S.T.A.Y. plan
Workbook page 9-4 spells it out for us. (Get it? SPELLS it out!!! Ha, ha, ha! I crack myself up!)
Study the page looking at the football pictures provided with each step. S.T.A.Y is a strategy, much like a football playbook to score a touchdown. The score Tony needs to make is VICTORY over his habit of cheating. You can use the steps too to help you overcome bad habits with which you struggle.
S.T.A.Y.
S is for STOP. Stop the behavior that is harmful. TACKLE it to the ground if you have to; find out what is the root cause. We must get rid of the bad roots from our hearts, otherwise our poor behavior will never permanently change.
T is for THINK. HUDDLE UP! Get help if you need to and don't hurry through this step. It might take some time to make a list of possible choices and predictable consequences. Then choose the best one.
A is for ACT. Follow through with your GAME PLAN. Stick to your PLAY BOOK. See your plan to completion.
Y is for YEA! Success, TOUCHDOWN, you did it!!! Celebrate and thank the Lord for helping you conquer your bad habit.
1. Say your Bible memory verse to your neighbor. Let them say it back to you.
3. Watch this video about Aaron and Moses. Then complete the activity together on Workbook
page 9-10.
4. Pray the closing prayer on Workbook page 9-8.
