Extending the Lesson WEEK 11

Your work from last lesson should look something like this. If you have different answers, can you defend why you wrote them down?

Those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness.

Proverbs 14:22

Complete at least three of these six assignments:

1. From the appendix find worksheet4.jpg. It will help clarify the S.T.A.Y. process. Try to fill in the blanks below from memory. But if you need to, look at your worksheet.

S.T.A.Y.

S means __________

T means __________

A means __________

Y means __________

The most challenging step is the THINK step. It requires that you focus your mind and heart as you work through all the possible choices and predictable consequences. I would like to emphasize that you should pray about each choice you have identified and ask God to help you choose the best one.

Although the THINK step is the most challenging, it is harder, in my opinion, to ACT. Acting on the best choice will always require a humble heart. I don't know about you, but my pride often crowds out any feelings of humility. And here again I must prescribe lots of prayer. That is why you should not hurry through these steps.

2. Complete the Word Search from the Workbook page 9-10. Find the key words on peacemaking in the puzzle. Bonus word is HOPE. Answers look like this:

3. Read the following story. Use the STAY Plan to help James alter his bad choice. Use Worksheet4.jpg to record your ideas.

James and Luke both wanted to play soccer during the noon recess. But as they approached the equipment box, they saw that there was only one soccer ball left. Just as Luke reached for the ball, James shoved him away, grabbed the ball, and ran out the door to the playground yelling, "Next time don't get in my way!" Their teacher saw what James did and made him come inside and sit through the rest of recess.

4. Pretend that you have had a bad habit of interrupting your parents when they are on the telephone. Using the  STAY Plan, think about how to alter your choice. Use worksheet4.jpg to record your answers.

5. Use the STAY Plan to alter one of your bad choices. Use worksheet4.jpg to record your answers. (C. Sande, p. 137)

6. Last chapter we watched "The Prodigal Son" video (Extending the Lesson WEEK 10). The parable as told by Jesus is found in Luke 15:11-24. Find a Bible and read through the story again. What is the main conflict in this parable? Are there more conflicts? What is the natural response to conflict? How does God want us to respond to conflict?

7. In WEEK 5 - PART 2 we watched "Zacchaeus." Find a Bible and read the story again. It is found in Luke 19:1-9. Can you figure out what the conflict was in this story? Was there more than one conflict? What was Jesus' answer to the conflict? How is that different from what we might naturally do?
